SKP2: Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information to compare and describe different types of motion.

Target Learning:

  • Identify and describe the breeds of chickens by name, color, features and characteristics.
  • Identify the ingredients and proper process for composting.
  • Identify living and non-living organisms living on the pasture.
1st Grade

Life Science

S1L1: Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information about the basic needs of plants and animals.

Target Learning:

  • Practice animal husbandry for goats, sheep and chickens in the pasture.
  • Collect data and keep a record of the number of eggs laid.
  • Identify and connect different sounds that come from each species of livestock.
2nd Grade

Life Science

S2L1: Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information about the life cycles of different living orgnisms.

Target Learning:

  • Create a diagram demonstrating the life cycle of a chicken.
  • Understand the difference between fertilized and non-fertilized eggs.
  • Use various methods to determine the sex of a chicken (hen or rooster).
3rd Grade

Life Science

S3L1: Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information about the similarities and differences between plants, animals and habitats found within geographic regions (Blue Ridge Mountains, Piedmont, Coastaal Plains, Valley and Ridge, and Appalachian Plateau) of Georgia.

Target Learning:

  • Describe the best regions for agriculture in the Georgia regions.
  • Understand ways to recycle and reuse household items to sustain the pasture.
  • Create a daily feeding schedule for goats and sheep.
  • Gain organization skills for equipment and tools used to care for pasture and livestock.

Steam Garden

Learn to recycle, plant and grow.

Kindergarten

SKL2: Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information to compare the similarities and differences in groups of organisms.

– Construct an argument supported by evidence for how plants can be grouped according to their features.

Target Learning:

  • Identify parts of the plant.
  • Identify plants based on their leaves.
  • Discover the types of insects that live in the soil.
1st Grade

Life Science

S1L1: Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information about the basic needs of plants and animals.

Target Learning:

  • Use microscope properly to onbserve plants.
  • Identify basic gardening tools and understand the purpose of its use.
  • Test soil for temperature and understand why.
  • Compare different types of seeds and the plants that grow from those seeds.
2nd Grade

Life Science

S2L1: Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information about the life cycles of different living organisms.

Target Learning:

  • Measure the growth of various plants
  • Understand the composting process and how it is transported from the pasture to the garden grow beds.
  • Identify the use and purpose for various gardening tools.
  • Understand how aquaponic is beneficial to the soil-based garden.
3rd Grade

Life Science

S3L1: Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information about the similarities and differences between plants, animals, and habitats found within geographic regions (Blue Ridge Mountains, Piedmont, Coastal Plains, Valley and Ridge, and Appalachian Plateau) of Georgia.

a. Ask questions to differentiate between plants, animals, and habitats found within Georgia’s geographic regions.

Target Learning:

  • Calculate the area and perimeter of a raised grow bed.
  • Understand the process of creating “Black Gold”.
  • Understand the process for testing the soil for pH levels & temperature.
  • Explain the basic needs of living things that exist in the outdoor grow bed soil-based garden.
